Fernando Troya (16/05/89) was born in Madrid, Spain, where he did his classical training at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid (2004-08). Right after graduating, he went to Germany to dance first with Goyo Montero (2008-10) and then with Stephan Thoss (2010-11).
He joined Netherlands Dance Theatre II in 2011. After 3 years with the company, he started freelancing as an independent young choreographer, teacher, performer and repetitor. He stages works mainly for Alexander Ekman, but also for Ivan Perez and Jiri Pokorny.
As a choreographer, he has created his own productions such as: ‘Essential Rights’, recently premiered at Korzo Theater and ‘Withering’, awarded by the Solo-Tanz-Theatre Festival, Warsaw Zawirowania Choreography Competition and 10 Sentidos Choreographic Competition, ’Uncertain Distance’, created for Ballet Finland, which premiered at the Finnish National Theater and ‘The Animal That Takes You’, created for Budapest Dance Theater and premiered at the National Theater of Hungary.
*Fernando Troya is currently doing a BA in Choreography at the Superior Conservatory of Dance Maria de Avila in Madrid. Currently, his focus is to develop a choreographic vision and vocabulary that allows him to talk about what matters to him. He is also very interested in getting closer to the theatre world and is considering an MA in Theatre Direction in the near future.
